Orthopedic

During this one whole AMS year, i've been into operation theater (OT)  for quiet a number of time... 10? 15? i lost count. Semuanya kerana sampel tulang saya.. Anyways,  i think it's a very interesting job. Being in an OT with a group of people assisting the surgeon and finishing the work together, seems so much fun!.. All this while, i thought  the situation would be a serious one but i was totally wrong.  I remembered the first time i entered into the surgical theater in UM it was lively! they'd make jokes and laughed their lungs out! and in UM, everyone was attired similarly! You'll totally unable to differentiate which one is the prof, the dr, the mo, the ho, the nurse, the ma, the ga anaesth, the radiographer etc2... But then later you'll learn it eventually..ah you'll know it sooner or later.

Me being there at first was not of a help at all, i would only just stand in a corner and watch the surgeon doing his work. They'd call for, 'ruler!', or 'core-needle please!' , hey how am i suppose to know???!... and i suddenly started to cuak tak pasal.. walaupun ada nurse yg amekkan.. but still, i feel quite useless... and paling sakit pinggang nye ialah harus berdiri.. Paling lama berdiri 3 jam kot... that was an endoperiosteal prosthesis surgery. First time diri, balik terus sengal2.. haha tp lepas 2-3 kali pergi, tak feel apa dah la... kebal kot. thihi! :D

I saw them cut off this and that, ketuk2 here and there, drilled out the bone marrow etc2... sometimes i thought to myself, is this a workshop? cuz it sounded like one.. heheh (orthopedic OT pun kan namanya). At first I was quite hesitant to get in to the room, because i'm afraid of interrupting their way..  But then later, they keep on inviting us to get in.. "jom la masuk tengok!" they'd say. 

 So i pun masuklah, then after a few times, i started to help the doctors, memberanikan diri to tie up their scrub dress and opened the glove packet for them. And for todaaaaay, *drum rolls*.... i helped to align the C-arm-high-x-ray-machine and clicked the button all by myself! (supposedly done by a radiographer) wee!  hahah. Dr was asking, 'bole ke tak?' and then i buat boleh. gua bangga wooo~ hahaha. that's why observation is important ye kawan2.

For the last 2 days, i need to get my sample from Selayang pulak. It was a little bit different from UM's. This time, the surgeon did his work with catchy songs played along in the background.. haha sempoi jugak.Somehow it feels more relax. And all of the staffs there were so sporting and so cool! they were funny too.. and of course, all works were still done professionally. I love selayang more cuz the environment was much more relaxed. Oh and Azra Cafe pun nice jugak.. it's on the 3rd floor, and very clean and it has big glass windows that you could see fluffy clouds and green trees outside.

these were some of the lines that i like:

 'kenapa berdiri kat luar je? masuk la? masuk cepat! tolong scrub skali' hahaha..'alaah masuk je, tade org nak makan punn'...

'haa nak sample? meh meh amik, lepas da cuci set ni..' lepas tu semua org dlm tu gelak2 (because the set was horror, with blood everywhere on the floor).. hahah

'tu sampel atas tu, tadi punya patient, haa amek la... lebih2 tu bawak balik tanam.. ' hahaha

The staff said, compared to other OTs (neuro, general surgery, ENT etc etc..) ortho punye OT lagi sporting sbb sume Dr. ortho cool2 and sempoi2 belaka... OT derang ni je yg pasang lagu..  

Oh I love the feeling of being in there.. although it seemed a lil bit hard, to align the fractured bone back in place, to ketuk2 masok the besi, to drill out the bone marrow, ingat senang ke? berat kot! tgk ekspresi muka pun tau... even muka ekspres macam tensi, tp still boleh buat lawak. hahah.. oh and oh, OT started from 8-5.. Dr and surgeon berdiri non stop. (ofcourse ada lunch hour, tp macam tak sempat, sbb kadang2 operation habis lambat...) sometimes even extended up till night. Fuh penat...

But i don't really care much bout that, i just love it. Even if it means tak kawen...kenapa? because i know, balik mesti dah lewat, lepas tu penat mesti terus tido, kene buat report lagi... (who would want org macam gitu as a wife?)

Tapi OT cuma a few days je in a week, so i don't see any problem at all kalau nak kawen pun... but.. oh well. biarlah.. Now i have orthopedic as one of my interests, i'd looooove to be specialized in that field. oh lagi satu, subspecialize jadi surgical oncology pun best...

Maka itu lah cerita ku hari ini... besst tak? kalau tak best kenapa baca jugak sampai habis? hehehe
